FAQ and Glossary
What is a canopy?
A canopy is the part of the light fixture that attaches to the ceiling or wall and covers the electrical junction box.
Are your fixtures plug-ins or do they have to be hardwired?
String10 and String19 arrive with plugs attached. If you wish to hardwire, just ask your electrician to snip the cord to your desired length, and install as directed. Orbit/Stellar/Buoy/Droplet/Box ship ready for hardwiring.
Are the fixtures dimmable?
Yes, all fixtures are dimmable. The String10 + String19 pendants come with in-line dimmers attached. For all other fixtures, we strongly encourage you to ask your electrician to install on a dimmer in order to achieve maximum mood lighting options. *LED bulbs require an LED dimmer for proper functionality.
Do you sell wholesale?
Yes we do. Please e-mail us at info@townsenddesign.net if you think Townsend Design might be a good fit. Tell us about your shop, your customers, and other brands you carry that you love.
Do you offer a discount "To the trade"?
Townsend Design offers a 15% trade discount to interior designers and architects on all fixtures with the exception of the String10 and String19 pendants. Please email a copy of your resale certificate to info@townsenddesign.net to initiate a trade quote. Future quotes may be requested directly by emailing info@townsenddesign.net.
Do you do custom projects?
We love collaborations and clever ideas; drop us a line.
Can I use LED bulbs?
Absolutely. We are currently working with Tala (talaled.com) to produce a full line of custom bulbs for all of our fixtures. Please reach us at info@townsenddesign.net for inquiries.
How do I install my fixture?
We recommend that a licensed electrician install our light fixtures to ensure the safety of your home and the life of your fixture. Improperly installed light fixtures may create a fire hazard. All of our fixtures are designed for use in a 120-volt fused circuit and are intended for interior use. Townsend Design cannot be held accountable for improperly installed fixtures or fixtures paired with the wrong size or wattage of light bulb.
When removing your fixture from its box, take care to lift up by the main power cord. Carefully handling your new fixture will keep everything in place for proper hanging.
Since your fixture ships flat, once properly installed it will require a few hours to settle into place, and a day or two to fully stretch out into its proper shape. You will find all bulbs necessary for installation included in your package as well as a reference card with bulb layout instructions and specifications for your fixture.
